Late March will bring the start of many prolific hatches on the West Branch of the Delaware River. On warmer days in late March, Blue Wing Olives and Little Black Stoneflies will begin to hatch in abundance, bringing trout out of their winter holding pattern into their typical spring feeding pattern. Later in April, the famous Hendrickson hatch will take way on the West Branch of the Delaware River causing even the biggest trout in the river to be fooled on a dry fly. Once the water begins to warm a little, the streamer fishing can be excellent. May is the month where you have a little bit of everything going on. From Hendricksons, to Caddis, to March Browns, to early Sulphurs there is always some kind of hatch taking place on the West Branch of the Delaware River. Summer Fly Fishing on the Delaware River

While fly fishing the West Branch of the Delaware River in the months of June, July, and August, expect hatches of Sulphurs, Isonychias, Blue Wing Olives, Ants, and Tricos. The fish in the West Branch of the Delaware River have been educated and fished heavily at this point so presentation becomes even more important. If technical dry fly fishing is your thing, this is the time to come! The summer months on the West branch of the Delaware River is an excellent time to nymph and swing wet flies during the day before the afternoon hatch kicks on. Fly fishing with mice patterns and streamer fishing after dark on the West Branch of the Delaware Rivers has become a popular way to target large trout in the summer!
