The cool night time temperatures are a sign that fall is coming, and with it, thousands of salmon entering the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY. Currently, there are only a few King Salmon milling around in the lower section (DSR) of the Salmon River. The whitewater release from the dam in Altmar, NY for Labor Day weekend will increase the flows to 750cfs. This will no doubt trigger more salmon into entering the river. The charter captains on Lake Ontario are reporting marking fish in 50-100 feet of water. What this means is that the salmon are not quite ready to make the run up the river but are slowly getting ready to stage in the estuary. Only time will tell how many salmon will enter the Salmon River on Labor Day weekend. This is a great time of year to hit the river early in the morning and enjoy tranquility of the river before the crowds begin to appear. As the salmon run progresses, I will continue to update the blog!
Just a reminder that weekend dates for guided fishing trips on the Salmon River are filling up quick. Still have a few week days available as well. Feel free to fill out a contact form on our website or give us a call at (518) 791-8048 to book a trip!
Fish on, and tight lines!
